Managing complexity and uncertainty in social sector organisations in the UK

Marcus Jenal of Mesopartner spoke at an event at the Newcastle University Business School about how to better manage complexity and uncertainty in social sector organisations. About 30 people of organisations from the social care sector in the North East of England participated at the event. The participants came from public and private sector as well as from a number of charitable organisations.

Marcus introduced the Cynefin framework as a framework that helps the organisations make sense of their situations and find appropriate management strategies for different issues. He further introduced the process of continuous exploration Mesopartner developed under its Systemic Insight research theme. The participants recognised the need to apply different management strategies in situations that are marked by uncertainty and messiness and appreciated the food for thought provided by Marcus. Some organisations also expressed the interest in receiving further support from Mesopartner.
