Why do we develop so many tools? The simple answer: To make the life of development practitioners easier, and to improve the quality of development work.
Some development practitioners have a natural talent to structure processes. Many practitioners work on the basis of intuition, which may or may not lead to robust results. Tools reduce the uncertainty for development practitioners. They provide a framework for specific work tasks, such as running a workshop with stakeholders that has a specific focus and purpose. The practitioner will certainly adapt the tool to his or her needs in a specific situation. But the availability of a tool saves a lot of time in conceptualising a given task, and it reduces the risk of failure.
