Value Chain Development

mesopartner's approach to value chain development is informed by experience in both developed and developing countries. Contrary to other approaches, we suggest that the most effective and efficient way of launching a value chain initiative is by blending stakeholder mobilisation, research, and action planning into each other, rather than spending significant amounts of money on upfront research. A case study of a Value Chain PACA in the catfish value chain in Vietnam illustrates this point.

mesopartner has several years of experience in value chain research and value chain initiatives.

  • Jörg Meyer-Stamer and Frank Wältring were involved in the joint IDS / INEF research project on global value chains and local upgrading.
  • Jörg Meyer-Stamer advised the SENAI/SEBRAE/GTZ Competir Programme in developing a methodology to launch regional value chain initiatives in Brazil's Northeast.
  • Ulrich Harmes-Liedtke has supported territorial value chain initiatives in various Latin American countries, and he is involved in a project that addresses the quality and metrology infrastructure that underlies value chain integration in Central America, thus reducing barriers to exports.
  • Christian Schoen has been involved in value chain-oriented PACA Exercises in Vietnam, Laos, and Indonesia.
