Quality Infrastructure

The Relevance of Quality Infrastructure to Promote Innovation Systems in Developing Countries

Which is the potential and the relevance of Quality Infrastructure (QI) for innovations in developing countries? The working group “Promoting Innovation Systems”, funded by the International Technical Cooperation PTB, is investigating this question, aiming at integrating the issue of QI into the debate of supporting innovation systems. They try to show how to cooperate more efficiently and effectively within the network of the different actors in this field. In contrast to the perfect market, consumers and producers are not always provided with full transparency about prices and quality of products. Malfunction of markets provokes the phenomenon “low quality drives out high quality”. Standards are a way to overcome market failure. The embedded technology helps SMEs to gain access to markets that are more profitable.
